About the Exhibition
This is the Boston sister of the original Nasty Women Exhibition launched in New York City in January 2017. It is one of many national and international exhibitions organized around the demonstration of solidarity among female artists and allies who identify with being Nasty Women. In the face of threats to roll back women's rights, civil rights, abortion rights, immigration rights, LGBTQ rights and environmental justice, Nasty Women Boston serves as a fundraiser, with 100% of proceeds from the sale of artwork to be donated to Color of Change and Planned Parenthood.
THE ORIGIN
The original Nasty Women Art Exhibition was started by Roxanne Jackson and Jessamyn Fiore in the immediate aftermath of the presidential election, with a Facebook post that read: Hello female artists/curators! Lets organize a NASTY WOMEN group show!!! Who’s interested??? The result was a sold-out show attended by 4600 people, displaying the work almost almost 700 artists from 42 states and 40 countries. It raised over $35,000 for Planned Parenthood on opening night, and over $50,000 total.
